Identify a Leader

Mother Teresa

Mother Teresa helped the poor and reached out to the untouchable people even she knew that if she touched those people, she will also get that disease, but she did not care and continued to care for them. She even helped sick people including hospices and homes for people with HIV/AIDS, leprosy and tuberculosis, soup kitchens, children's and family counselling programs, orphanages, and schools.

She has been praised by many individuals for her kind deed.

Personal Reflection on Overnight Camp (7/8 Jan)

The 2 day 1 night camp was exciting ! I think the overnight camp helped the class to know each other more , and helped us to bond more. I knew more people's names during the camp. The camp also taught me how to overcome my fear of heights. The activities were so fun that I want to do them again ! I also learnt that we should continue trying, do our best even though we fail in doing something right, but if we do our best and not stop trying , we will accomplish it no matter what happens. We should also understand more of our classmates to accomplish group works. We should always cooperate and participate to accomplish teamwork. Overall, I enjoyed the camp.

Personal Reflection on Bridge Building on 6 Jan

  • What do you understand about the school value "Expanding Our Learning Networks"?
  • Why is this value important and how will it help you in your learning experience in SST?

What I understand about the school value is that we should go beyond our boundaries (eg. Places Boundaries, Time Boundaries) and explore the world. We should not just hide in one corner and learn the things there, and stop when we know everything about that place already. We should go out of that certain corner and see the world, then we will have a broader vision of the world, learning different things, exploring.

The value "Expanding Our Learning Networks" is important because it teaches us how to discover the world we stay in, go out of SST school and looking at places (eg. the neighbourhood around our school). Discovering how other people in other places of Singapore or the world do things DIFFERENTLY from us, their culture. By doing this and having this value in our school, we will experience a broader world, going BEYOND our boundaries, making new friends of different races and culture.

This value will help me/ teach me know new people, new places, new cultures, new races, etc. unlike other schools in Singapore that don't often go out to the public, not expanding their learning networks (no offense).

Personal Reflection on Bridge Building on 5 Jan

  • What do you understand about the school value "Forging Excellence"?
  • What are the strengths that you think you possessed which can help you to achieve excellence?
  • What other attributes and attitudes do you think you should cultivate to excel in the things you do?
  • How can you contribute to help your class succeed?

"Forging Excellence" means having the will to win, having the desire to succeed, etc . You should have the "burning desire" in you to learn. When you learn, the outcome will be EXCELLENCE. You have to have the "burning desire" to forge Excellence.

The strengths I think were the desire to win, not wanting to lose to the other classes. Also, my group had a positive thinking that we would finish the bridge and do it well.

We should have positive thinking, be optimistic, to succeed / excel in the things we do in the future.

I can contribute by encouraging them, helping them to do what is needed, telling them to be optimistic. I also can help them by doing some of the work in the projects in all my abilities, trying my best, or better, DOING my best. (:

Personal Reflection on Bridge Building on 4 Jan

  • Difficulty to work with new people?
  • How did you overcome your worry? Your “shyness”?
  • How did you contribute to the project?
  • Why is it important to participate?
  • What is one important skill you learnt & how can you apply it in class?

At the beginning I was a bit shy as I did not know most of the students. However, after being together for a whole morning, I overcomed my "shyness". How I overcame it? I just mustered up my courage and talk to the other students in the group.

When we were building the bridge, I was not sure what to do as most of the jobs were taken. Somehow, I managed to help. I help to put the "fence" around the bridge and also used the green sticky tape to paste them on the bridge. I also helped to put an ice-cream stick between the two towers. Oh ya! I also helped to paste the "weird" tree. haha! (:

I think it is important to participate in projects as we can communicate more with the other members in the group and we can experience a broader world.

One important skill I learnt is teamwork. However, I think cooperation is more important. When a few people are in a group and are required to do a project, everybody should cooperate. If even only ONE person does not cooperate, the group will not work out as well as another group where every single person is cooperating. Also, if ONE person does not cooperate and gets angry, arguments will occur. If the argument is too big, the project will most likely be uncompleted. How I apply cooperation in class? When a teacher asks me to do something, I will do it without hesitation. I will also listen to other people's opinions during group work. (:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  • How do you feel about working in a team on the bridge building project?
  • What do you think about your interactions with the members in your team?
  • What have you learnt about yourself in the course of the activity and what would you have done differently in future group activities?
  • Did you experience any fear(s), discomfort(s) and apprehension(s) working with this team? Why?
  • How do you overcome them?

I feel okay with it, but when we just started, it was quite weird as I am not used to working with boys. But at the end it was okay. We talk a lot, haha, but when we need to do work, we do them, but with talking, haha. We do jobs separately, and join them at the end(: I learnt that I can actually build a bridge model. I have not tried doing that before. In future group activities, I would be more active and participate more than this time.

When we just started the project, like what I said, I was not comfortable with working with boys, but at the end it was okay anyway. I was also scared at first that we may not finish doing the bridge on time, but surprisingly, we finished it early and the bridge looked really good. How I overcame them? I just told myself that I should just participate actively, and work with the people in my group, no matter if they are male or female. I also mustered up my courage and told myself that the bridge would work, and with the active members of my group, the bridge would work well and we will be able to finish it on time. (:

My favourite online application is facebook. I like to use facebook as I can keep in touch with my friends and daily happenings in my family and friends' lives, especially now, when my primary classmates and I have to go our separate ways. In facebook, I also like to read daily K-pop news, so I can find out what is happening in my Korean Idols' lives(:

Jurong Point

I went to Jurong Point twice this December. The first time I went there was to watch a movie with my grandparents. We watched the movie 2012. The second time was with my mother. We went there to buy a dress for me for our Christmas Party.

Experience and Learning

Describe your experience in creating this blog.

Actually, I already have another blog, so I already have some knowledge how to create one. That blog is much nicer than this one. Hahaha. I had a hard time choosing the blog link name. I was trying all sorts of names, but in the end I just chose my name. It was fun though creating the blog. In my first experience in creating a blog, I found it quite difficult, but I was able to get through it anyway. Nowadays, I know how to edit codes in my other blog and I find it fun. (:

Suggetions on how blogging can be part of my learning experience in SST.

Creating a blog can help me gain knowledge on how to create a personal website. I also can express myself in the blog and share it with my classmates and teachers.

Feelings and Reactions

When the words "CONFIRMED OFFER UNDER DIRECT SCHOOL ADMISSION - SECONDARY FOR ADMISSION TP SST IN 2010" caught my eye, I was thoroughly shocked! I did not expect to get in because I knew my chance was very slim with all the other smart students signing up for SST.
